
Event Overview:
The 2026 GONA Training of Facilitators is a blended learning experience designed to strengthen facilitation skills and support individuals in becoming effective change agents within their communities and organizations. Held May 18–21, 2026 at Urban Rez Courts in Haslett, MI, the program includes self-paced modules, a live virtual seminar, a digital toolkit, and a 3.5-day immersive practicum, with options for both foundational online learning and full facilitator certification.

Additional Benefits:
Trainees who complete the program gain access to digital and printed resources, including handouts, templates, PowerPoint presentations, ongoing coaching, and opportunities to participate in learning communities.
About the Trainers:

Maria Trevizo
Wellness Education Specialist
Maria is a descendant of the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo of Texas and the Purépecha of Mexico. Maria works collaboratively with many North American tribes and Indigenous communities of the United States, Canada, Australia and Mexico and Guatemala. With over 50 years of experience, she helps youth, adults and families to rediscover their own inner joy and beauty. As a facilitator, Maria coaches' individuals, communities and tribes in recognizing the resilience and strength gained from working as a healthy partner and team.

Don Lyons, MSW
Founder, Indigenise, LLC
Don is a citizen of Leech Lake Band of Ojibway and descendant of Six Nations Mohawk. He brings 15+ years of experience working with hundreds of communities, organizations, and businesses internationally and across Indian Country as a highly skilled facilitator, evaluator, trainer, coach, and leader. Don brings his lived experience, passion and professional expertise to help build self sufficient Indigenous Nations.

Nickole Fox, MA, CPC-R
Owner, Brown Fox Strategies, LLC
Nickole Fox (Cherokee descendant) brings over 25 years of experience in youth and community wellness through program development, event planning, and leadership. She is a Certified Prevention Consultant and actively serves her community through local neighborhood, environmental, and Indigenous initiatives. Nickole loves getting people together and building community, whether it’s putting together logistics for an event, or visiting with neighbors over a cup of coffee.

Is the online self-paced and live seminar required?
Yes, the self-paced is vital component to get trainee ready for the face-to-face training. The live seminar scheduled for May 11, 2026 will be an important element to help folks get ready for onsite training.

Meals are on your own. We will provide refreshments in the morning. We will also provide a list of local restaurants.
